UV Pool System Power Supply: 110V or 220V
We are often asked whether there is a benefit to connecting to 220V, rather than just plugging in to a GFI 110V outlet. In applications that use a lot of power, like some pumps, there is an advantage. Generally, in these appliances, connecting to 220V will mean less power consumption, thus saving you money in the long run.
With a UV system, however, there is only a small amount of energy consumed. A UV system with 2 lamps is using less power than a 60W light bulb. Therefore, the savings is relatively insignificant in the long run. What we suggest to help you decide, is based purely on convenience. If there is a GFI outlet handy, then that would seem to be the logical choice. In some instances, the majority of the pool equipment runs on 220V. In these cases, it is easier to simply connect to this power source.
