Ozone & UV – The DEL AOP

Combining the Power of OZONE and UV

Ozone has been used in use since the early 1900’s. Like ultraviolet, ozone has been used in the sanitation process of residential and commercial pools and spas, as well as many other applications. The inevitable combination of UV and ozone has resulted in a product called the DEL AOP.

The DEL AOP is designed for residential pools and spas and combines ozone and germicidal UV in one system. When the ozone passes through the UV chamber it converts to a hydroxyl free radical, resulting in AOP (Advanced Oxidation Process). Hydroxyl radicals (•OH) are the most powerful oxidation agents available, quickly destroying bacteria, viruses, pathogens and other contaminants that occur in water. Hydroxyl radicals also destroy chlorine resistant microorganisms, such as Cryptosporidium Parvum, Giardia and E.Coli. This makes the combination of UV and ozone the most powerful sanitizer available today, bringing us as close as is possible to a chemical free pool or spa.

Achieving Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP)?

This is the key result in combining ozone and UV. There are many forms of AOP, but the one associated with the pool and spa sanitation is made through a combination of CD ozone and UV. Combining ozone and ultraviolet technology into one cohesive system creates synergistic sanitation, which maximizes disinfection, water clarity, and chloramine removal.

In an AOP system, ozone gas is dissolved in water chamber and then passes through the UV lamp cylinder. When ultraviolet energy is incorporated with ozone, it generates a chemical reaction known as hydroxyl radicals – short-lived, but very powerful oxidizers that can kill pathogens and microorganisms, as well as destroy inorganic contaminants in the water. They’re even stronger oxidizers than ozone alone.

In order to generate AOP, both ozone and germicidal UV are required. As water flows through the system, hydroxyl radicals are being formed continuously. The more ozone molecules in the system, the more hydroxyl radicals are created. After the hydroxyl radicals oxidize contaminants in the water, they quickly convert back to oxygen (O2). This makes AOP a safe, sustainable, and green technology. It also provides the cleanest pool water with the least amount of chlorine required.

Although the DEL Eclipse has changes its name to AOP, the basic technology remains the same. With DEL’s history in water sanitation you are guaranteed a team of experts are behind the product for service and support. Like other DEL products, the AOP has been tested and proven itself over and over again, as a reliable, innovative, and cost efficient form of pool sanitation.

With 2 new models to choose from, the AOP is suitable for residential pools and spas. The AOP 25 will cover pools and spas up to 30 GPM, while the AOP 40 is suitable for pools with flow rates up to 40 GPM. For Pools up to 50 000 gallons with flow rates of up to 50 GPM, the AOP 50 is most suitable. Download our brochure or follow the links for manuals and support documents.
